Swanpool Cinema

Swanpool is a small rural community on the Midland Highway between Benalla and Mansfield. It has a store, sports ground, bowling club, a couple of churches, just a few houses and the impressive Swanpool Hall. The hall was built by volunteers over two and a half years and was officially opened by Sir Henry Bolte on 1 November, 1957.

Kevin Smith retired from the SEC in 1989 to start Swanpool Cinema in October 1991. He met Shirley Swallow, his wife to be, at a film festival in Rosebud and together they ran the cinema as a private business for 20 years, retiring at the end of 2011 on New Year's Eve.

Since that time the Cinema has been a community cinema, completely run with volunteer labour. A team of volunteers run the candy bar, the ticket box, projection and all the admin functions.

So for over 24 years now Swanpool Cinema has been screening the best of art house and quality movies, usually as a double feature on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Matinees, bus groups, fundraisers and private functions are also promoted. The Cinema can shape an audio-visual event to your requirements.

In 2013 the visual and sound systems were upgraded to D Cinema digital to provide an excellent film experience. A new motorised screen was also installed. The old projectors were retained though, so the old classics can still be run.

One added benefit of the new digital system is to be able to work with local filmmakers and screen their video content. Air-conditioning now adds to the comfort and espresso coffee is available at the candy bar.

Free electric barbeques are now available at the Swan Pavilion for a pre-show picnic. Please drop by, visit the website or make a phone call for more information.

Tin Shed Cider

Tin Shed Cider was born of the idea to use the beautiful produce from an old apple orchard in Tolmie, Victoria.

This has evolved into the production of a traditionally crafted still cider made from pure fresh apple juice. No added sugar, no added water, gluten and preservative free.

A new range of Sparkling Ciders has been added to the range. Lightly carbonated to add a refreshing sparkle, this range is also made from the pure fresh juice of Victorian apples, has no added sugar or water and has a minimal amount of preservative to extend shelf life.

The old orchard is being renovated, following organic principles - a project that will take a number of years.

The old shed is being developed not only as a cellar door but a quirky venue for smaller personal functions. A varied range of events are scheduled each year.

This wickedly enjoyable cider is available at the Cellar Door and selected outlets and markets. The Cellar Door is open every Sunday. A light lunch is available most Sundays, please phone for bookings.
