Tarra Bulga National Park


Tarra-Bulga National Park in South Gippsland is well known for its giant Mountain Ash trees, beautiful fern gullies and ancient myrtle beeches. The park covers some of the best examples of original cool temperate rainforests of the Strzelecki Ranges.

Walk to the impressive Corrigan's Suspension Bridge, which stretches through the rainforest canopy, affording spectacular views of the lush fern gully on the forest floor below.

Yarram Historical Society


The Yarram and District Historical Society has a long and distinguished history. First formed in May 1911, it was the first sub-history centre of The Royal Historical Society of Victoria to be formed in Victoria.

Under the leadership of Rev. George Cox this group flourished until Rev. Cox in 1915 enlisted and went to serve in the war,the group then closed. The Society was reformed in 1964.

The Society has many items of historical interest, large archives of local history, books, photographs, ephemera and other memorabilia covering the Old Alberton Shire.

The records of the Yarram and District Historical Society include the areas and towns of Yarram, Alberton, Tarraville, Port Albert, Woodside, Tarra Valley, Won Wron, Macks Creek, Carrajung, Devon North, Jack River, Alberton West, Alberton East, Gelliondale, Hedley, Stacey's Bridge, Blackwarry, Balook, Baloong, Willung, Binginwarri, Willung South, Calrossie, Hiawatha, Woranga, Wonyip, Darriman and Giffard.

Yarram Courthouse Gallery


The Yarram Courthouse Gallery is a community art space run by members of the gallery with support from staff and volunteers from Mirridong Services Inc. It is located in the renovated Courthouse, a well-known historic building in the main street of Yarram, South Gippsland.

Local and regional artists can display their work, raising the profile of the artists in the community. They have regular exhibitions of visual and creative arts. The exhibition space includes professional track lighting, a security system, moveable walls and plinths, allowing for various display options. It also has toilet facilities and a kitchen area to facilitate exhibition openings.

The gallery, open every day except Wednesday, shares the building with the local Information and Tourist services as well as a gift shop, both of which bring in a flow of visitors. Gallery members work with exhibitors to provide assistance in arranging exhibitions and openings.

Holey Plains State Park


Holey Plains State Park covers an area of 10,638 hectares of mostly Banksia and Eucalypt open-forest and woodlands growing in a series of low sandy ridges. Proclaimed in 1977, the park protects an extremely high diversity of native flora and abundant wildlife, while providing for bushwalking, picnicking, camping and other activities.

Explore the park on foot on a number of different walks. Many of the tracks off Rosedale-Stradbroke Road provide easy walks and are particularly beautiful in spring when wildflowers are in bloom.

Location: Traralgon to Stratford
Distance: 67 kilometres one way
Track: Generally smooth dirt or gravel track
Grade: Level One - No experience required
Start: Intersection of Marshalls Rd and the Traralgon-Maffra Road (C105)
Finish: Apex Park, Stratford, beside the Avon River

The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail is a 67 kilometre recreational trail following the former historic Gippsland Plains railway line route between Stratford and Traralgon.

Traralgon to Glengarry (10 kilometres)
Pass through the scenic Latrobe River floodplain and over four spectacular restored bridges.

Glengarry to Toongabbie (9 kilometres)
This path leads to the peaceful Eaglehawk Creek, ideal for picnicking.

Toongabbie to Cowwarr (9 kilometres)
This section sets out across the plains with views towards the Great Dividing Range.

Cowwarr to Heyfield via Dawson (11 kilometres)
Head out of Cowarr past the scenic Rainbow Creek crossing and continue through the rich river flats.

Heyfield to Tinamba (10 kilometres)
The Tinamba Hotel makes for a great food stop.

Tinamba to Maffra (8 kilometres)
This section of the trail has an excellent surface and passes through wetlands, forest and a number of creek crossings.

Maffra to Stratford via Powerscourt (10 kilometres)
The trail follows the main railway line through quintessentially country landscape.

Yarram Variety Market


Located in Gippsland's beautiful countryside, the Yarram Variety Market is a small country market with approximately 30 stalls.

There is an SES sausage sizzle, Red Cross canteen, Red Cross cake and bric-a-brac stall, clothing, crafts, plants, produce and tools stalls.

All stall fees go to help maintain the hall and grounds.

Yarram Variety Market occurs on the First Sunday of the month from 8:00am to 1:00pm.

Yarram Centenary of Flight


The Yarram Centenary of Flight commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first military air mission over Australian soil during WW1 based out of Yarram.

The event will consist of an airshow by Paul Bennet airshow, the story of the plane which carried out the mission and the pilot who led the team Captain Frank McNamara VC. RAAF displays, childrens entertainment, joy flights and food vans.

Latrobe Visitor Information Centre


The Latrobe Visitor Information Centre is located in 'The Old Church' 41 Princes Street, Traralgon (next to the railway station). Friendly staff and volunteers can assist you with information on the Latrobe Valley and the greater Gippsland region including accommodation, events, restaurants, attractions and any general queries you may have.

The Latrobe Valley is a region of surprising contrasts with vibrant towns and peaceful villages, tranquil national parks and picturesque rail trails. Sample award winning food and wine, enjoy shopping in boutiques or at a weekend market. Take in a show, wander through a gallery or museum, get out on the water or take to the skies.

The centre is open seven days a week, 9:00am to 5:00pm (except Christmas Day and Good Friday) stocking a range of local maps and brochures as well as information on other regions throughout Victoria and Australia. They also offer Australian and locally made gifts and produce.

The centre is wheelchair and pram friendly with ramps, toilets, disabled and RV/long vehicle parking. They also provide a key for the Liberty Swing (all abilities), Wi-Fi, Chargebar (charges mobile phones, iPads and cameras) and a bike rack.
