On the doorstep to the Baw Baw National Park, the West Gippsland tourist town of Neerim South is an idyllic stopover with its breathtaking scenery plus galleries and boutique B&Bs.

A trip to the snowfields of Mt Baw Baw isn't complete without some time in Neerim South, with its local shops selling fabulous cheeses or the regional growers and their super-fresh produce. Stock up on meats direct from the butcher, like the venison from Gracefield.

During the summer months the bush trails beckon. The Rokeby to Neerim Rail Trail is an easy ride that boasts views of Tarago Reservoir, Bunyip State Forest and Mt Baw Baw, while the Glen Nayook Rainforest Walk follows the Tarago River to a fern gully where the river runs underground for 100 metres. Pack a lunch and stroll along the fern-laden banks of the Latrobe River, experience a tour on horseback, or take the West Gippsland Hinterland Drive through magnificent and incredibly diverse landscapes.

Help conserve the lush flora and varied animal life of Glen Nayook by joining a volunteer group.

Neerim South is 110 kilometres from Melbourne, or about one hour and 20 minutes by car along the M1.

Tarago Reservoir Park


Tarago Reservoir Park offers the perfect setting for a picnic or barbecue with family and friends. The picnic area has sloping lawns set amongst bush settings, with views of the reservoir and surrounding landscapes.

Noojee Trestle Bridge


Set in beautiful tall forest, the majestic Noojee Trestle Bridge is the tallest surviving wooden trestle bridge in Victoria.

The bridge is a legacy of the old railway that ran from Noojee to Warragul. It was originally constructed in 1919, but in 1939 was completely burnt down and rebuilt in the same year. The historical bridge spans 102 meters and is 21 meters high.

Amidst scenic eucalypt and fern forest, the Noojee Trestle Bridge makes the perfect break to stretch your legs and enjoy the peaceful surrounds.

The bridge also marks the starting point for walks and cycling. The Noojee Trestle Bridge Rail Trail is a short scenic cycling trail that climbs gently for three kilometres along a smooth dirt or gravel track. The Noojee Trestle Bridge Walk is six kilometres return, taking around two hours to complete.

While car parking is available, there are no toilet or picnic facilities at the site.

Nickelby at Darnum


Nickelby at Darnum is the home of Nickelby Alpacas, Nickelby Designs and Nickelby Olives; where you can take the opportunity to come and see this working alpaca stud.

Owned by Angela Betheras who is also the RIRDC 2011 Victorian Rural Woman of the Year, Nickelby at Darnum operates a farm gate selling beautiful alpaca garments made from fine Australian fleece as well as stylish garments from Peru. Nickelby at Darnum have throw rugs, jumpers, coats, scarves, hats and doonas, to name a few, all made from this beautiful fibre.

Whilst stocking an extensive range of commercial garments, Nickelby Designs is Angela's own range and this is all made from Australian Alpaca, mostly from her own animals. The farm also stock alpaca yarn including hand dyed Australian alpaca yarn.

Nickelby At Darnum is also a licenced venue so you can book in for a ploughman's lunch with a glass of wine and sit back and enjoy the views and the lovely alpacas or enjoy coffee and cake with their own unique secret blended coffee that you cannot find anywhere else.

As one of the largest alpaca farm shops in Australia, you are certain to find exactly what you are looking for.

The Station Gallery Yarragon


The Station Gallery and Community Arts Hub Yarragon is part of the exciting arts scene in Yarragon, and is a vibrant meeting place to sample local arts. The Station Gallery is conveniently located across the road from the town centre at the Yarragon Railway Station, on the Princes Freeway just over an hour from Melbourne.

The gallery caters to lover's of art with a changing display of art by local artists and artisans. The exhibitions by local artists change each month. Exhibitions are either a single artist or a group exhibition.

Workshops and drop in sessions cater for those wishing to learn new skills from Wednesday to Friday on a casual basis. Workshops take place on weekends.

The Gallery is a run by the Baw Baw Arts Alliance and acts as a one stop shop for all arts related activities in the region

Warragul Farmers Market


Warragul Farmers Market is a place for people to meet and support local farmers and producers and buy a huge range of fresh and hand made food.

More than 50 stallholders will be selling their locally-grown, locally-made products; from bread, to cheese, to olive oil to fresh fruit and vegetables and much more. Experience quality Gippsland grown and made food at beautiful Civic Park.

Warragul Farmers Market is held the third Saturday of each month, all year round.

Parking at the Arts Centre or Mason Street car parks.

Fifth Annual Warragul Antique and Collectables Fair


Warragul Regional College Chaplaincy is holding its fifth Annual Antique and Collectables Fair. There will be a wide variety of goods available as well as lunch and refreshments available for purchase.

Fair will operate 9:30am to 3:00pm. Entry is $5 per adult, children free.

Bring along your own items for valuing. Appraisals will be between 10:00am and 1:00pm at a cost of $5 per item

All proceeds go toward the work of Chaplaincy in the College.
