Yanchep is coupled with neighbouring town Two Rocks and is often referred to as Yanchep Two Rocks. Located one hours drive north of Perth, the towns boast some of the most pristine beaches close to Perth. The name Yanchep is of Aboriginal origin, and is derived from 'yanget', a native flax or bulrush still found in Yanchep National Park. Other activities in the area outside of the popular national park include horse riding, fishing, bushwalking, caving, sailing, swimming, surfing and scuba diving. Yanchep offers a country lifestyle within easy distance of Perth. In late spring migrating whales can be seen, most frequently from Lagoon Beach, a favourite swimming spot. Yanchep offers the visitor a choice of restaurants and a small beach side cafe. Accommodation ranges from bed and breakfasts to self catering and motel style accommodation within walking distance of the beach.

Indian Ocean Drive

Indian Ocean Drive is the quickest and prettiest way to get from Perth to one of Australia's most unique landscapes, the Pinnacles Desert. Following its 286-kilometre path from Yanchep to Dongara-Port Denison, you can stop at stunning beaches, towering sand dunes, national parks filled with spring wildflowers, top fishing spots and surfing hotspots.

Heading north from the centre of Perth, it takes less than an hour (30 minutes from the northern suburbs) to reach the start of the Indian Ocean Drive in Yanchep.

Within an hour of Yanchep, you'll reach Australia's Coral Coast and the town of Lancelin - a windsurfing, diving, fishing, snorkelling and sand boarding paradise.

Now you're just another hour away from Cervantes and the other-worldly landscapes of the Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park, and the earliest life forms on earth, the stromatolites, at Lake Thetis.

From here, the road hugs the coastline leading you to the colourful offshore reefs and playful Australian sea lions of Jurien Bay, and some of the State's most dazzling displays of coastal wildflowers in Spring.

The final leg enters a region of rich cultural heritage at the Central Greenough Historical Settlement, the twin-town of Dongara-Denison and the city of Geraldton.

Yanchep National Park - Crystal Cave

Crystal Cave in Yanchep National Park is an underground wonderland full of natural cave decorations such as stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, flowstones, columns and shawls. Join a 45 minute guided tour to experience Perth's only metropolitan tourist cave.

Tours of the cave take place every day of the year. Tickets are available from McNess House Visitor Centre and must be purchased at least 15 minutes prior to the tour time.

Yanchep National Park - Bushwalking Trails

Yanchep National Park offers you a choice of nine interesting walk trails ranging in length from 500 metres to 51.8 kilometres. Along the way you will witness spectacular scenery and panoramic views from the sea to the scarp.

Choose a walk trail to suit your personal level of fitness and time frame.

Appreciate the diverse range of trees including Banksia, Tuart, Marri, Stunted Jarrah, Sheoak and Paperbark. During spring an array of stunning wildflowers brighten the trails.

Animal and bird watchers can delight in the abundant wildlife residing in Yanchep National Park. Gain an insight into Aboriginal culture following the Yaberoo Budjara trail which is based on Yellagonda, (a significant local Nyoongar elder) and his people's movements in the area.

Longer walking trails such as the three and a half day Coastal Plain Walk provides facilities including walkers huts, water tanks and bush toilets.

Walkers are asked to collect a map and register at McNess House Visitor Centre before heading off to explore a trail.

Ghost House Walk Trail, Yanchep National Park

The Ghost House Walk Trail takes you on a journey to discover the natural and cultural history of the wilderness areas in Yanchep National Park, an hour north of Perth. The moderate 12.4 kilometre loop Top Trail allows trail users to encounter the sights and sounds of the pristine wetlands and discover the historic remains of the 'Ghost House'.

Join the trail via the Wetlands Walk Trail that weaves its way around Loch McNess. Wetlands, tuart forest, Banksia woodlands and coastal heath provide plenty of interest and variety.

The trail ends at McNess House Visitor Centre in the main recreation area. Only a short walk to Chocolate Drops for a coffee or the Yanchep Inn for a refreshing ale or lunch.

Turn this into a two-day walk by taking your swag and spending a night under the stars at Shapcotts campsite, nestled under a grove of grand old Tuart trees.

Yanchep Monthly Markets

Yanchep Monthly Markets are a farmers and general market selling locally sourced free range beef, pork and chicken, fresh local fruit and vegetables, eggs, honey, jams and preserves. A selection of hand-made children's clothing, soaps, candles, beeswax products, crystals, salt lamps and lots more will also be on sale.

Breakfast will be available and there will be lots of food vendors, with the Bistro and bar opening at noon. A face painter and DJ will keep the whole family entertained.

There is something for everyone at the Yanchep Monthly Markets, so come on down on the last Sunday of every month.
