The Coromandel Peninsula is a favourite New Zealand holiday spot. With native forest around volcanic hills and easy access to both bush and beach, it’s easy to understand why. Add a vibrant arts culture, charming colonial architecture and renowned water gardens and you’ve got the perfect getaway. There’s plenty to do in the Coromandel all year round, but spring is the start of scallop season. This means scallop diving, barbecues and expertly prepared treats at the local restaurants. Spring and summer are also great times to drop in on the surf beach of Whangamata. The natural attractions of Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove are not to be missed. At Hot Water Beach enjoy the hot water bubbling through the golden sand. Hike the many tracks around Cathedral Cove which is only accessible by foot or boat.
