John Dodd Park

John Dodd Park is located on the southern edge of town in one of Gunnedah's newly built housing estates. The Park is just off Wandobah Road into Tallowood Drive as you head south toward the Gunnedah Rugby Club.

The park has a pirate-ship theme playground and is fun for all ages.

This park features a drinking fountain, playground, seating, bike track and lots of shady spots to sit back, relax and watch the children play.

150? East Meridian Rest Area

This particular meridian is the basis of the Eastern Australian Standard Time, used in Queensland, New South Wales (except Broken Hill), Victoria and Tasmania.

The 150 Degrees East Meridian crosses the Oxley Highway 34 kilometres south-west of Gunnedah. Methods of measuring time have varied over the ages, but the time unit most commonly employed has been the apparent daily circuit of the sun, from which solar time is derived.

The solar day is based on one complete rotation of the earth around its axis. Solar days are not uniform in length, because the movement of the earth is not constant, modern time calculation is based on the average solar day.

The Rest Area is located 28 kilometres south-west of Gunnedah, off the Oxley Highway. The area has ample parking, picnic shelter, information board, a sundial and barbecue facilities.

Ron Pople Park

Ron Pople Park is located in the southern residential area of Gunnedah, just above the Golf Course.

It has a large grassed area suitable for children to run and play on, park benches and great playground equipment. The park is easily accessed from Linden Place or Hinton Drive and you are likely to see a few Kangaroos lying around the grassy area, enjoying the summer shade or winter sun depending on the season. The park is close to natural bushland and the kangaroos are free to roam.

McAndrew Park

McAndrew Park is along Wandobah Road and is one of the biggest parks in the Shire. It is situated along the walking track which starts at the Gunnedah Skate Park and finishes at the Gunnedah Rugby Club.

This park features a playground, a sheltered picnic table, toilets, and large grassed playing fields.

Rotary Park

The Rotary Park is also known to Gunnedah locals as 'The Rocket Park'.

A large Rocket Ship style play equipment is built on the grounds and the park is located on the corner of Ashford Street and Gallen Avenue. The area is a great spot for children to play in and run around on the large grassed area. Playground equipment is available along with sheltered picnic tables set amongst lots of shady trees.

Porcupine Lookout

Porcupine Lookout is located two kilometres from town, off Apex Road.

The access road to the summit of the lookout was a construction project of the Gunnedah Apex Club. The northern platform overlooks the town and beyond to the Nandewar Ranges, over 100 kilometres away. To the right are the hills of Kelvin and the Kelvin State Forest. 'Nobby's Rock' is a notable feature that stands out in the afternoon sun. To the south is the panoramic view of the rich agricultural land of the Breeza and Pullaming plains, in times of flood this area presents a picture of a huge inland sea that lasts for many days at a time.

The name 'Porcupine' dates back to the early days. Aboriginals of the Kamilaroi Tribe called the hill 'Bindea' which means 'the place where shrubs with leaves like a porcupine quill grow'.

Athol Gallen Park

Athol Gallen Park is situated off Walter Rodd Street in Gunnedah, and is part of five acres of land that was donated by Athol Gallen to Gunnedah in 1970.

Athol Gallen Park includes playground equipment, a sheltered picnic table and a bike track surrounding the equipment. This park is a great spot for the whole family to visit and have some afternoon fun!

Gunnedah Golf Club

The Gunnedah Golf Club is a quality 18 hole, par 70, Bent Green course located in Gunnedah in North West New South Wales. A flat course of kikuyu fairways, watered tees and greens is located in a quiet residential setting and the Course has an abundance of trees that accommodate a variety of birdlife and sleepy koalas.

Stock Road Gym Equipment

Stock Road Gym Equipment is located on the Stock Road Cycle/Walkway that runs from the bottom end of Stock Road - starting at Links Road, and up the hill to the end of Stock Road at Porcupine Street . The Gym equipment is at either end of the Cycle/Walkway and is available for public use. Both adults and children are welcome to use the equipment for exercise and or play on as you take a stroll around Gunnedah.

A double row of Gum trees along Stock Road also supports the local koala colony that visit the area. Local history has it that Stock Road was part of the original North/South overland Stock Route used by drovers in the late 1800's for moving livestock down from Queensland and out west down to Sydney in bygone days.

Gunnedah Rural Museum

The Gunnedah Rural Museum is one of Australia's largest collections showcasing Australia's history of early agriculture and transport memorabilia. More than 18,000 items are on display, so allow plenty of time for your visit to wander through the exhibits and collections.

A small entry fee is payable at the door and volunteers are available to direct you through the museum, interpreting the exhibits and answering any questions you may have.

The museum houses tractors, steam engines, antique farm machinery, horse drawn and motorised vehicles, household items, Antique Firearms, RSL exhibit, working foundry, Toys and a model railway, Shearing display, Craft and Gift shop.

Museum volunteers are happy to cater a light lunch, or morning and afternoon teas for small organisations or visiting coach groups. Previous arrangement is asked - please contact the museum direct for catering details.

A well stocked souvenir gift shop is located on site.

Located on the Oxley Highway on the western side of Gunnedah. The museum is open every day from 9.00am until 3.00pm. Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday.
