Fill your mind with knowledge on the town's political, war, transport, mining and land history by visiting other must-see attractions including the Sir Henry Parkes Statue, Kelly Reserve, Bushman's Hill and Memorial Hill - the perfect choice for history enthusiasts and the active adventurer.

Be sure to dust off your Blue Suede Shoes and rock on down to Parkes Elvis Festival in the second week of January to show some Burning Love for the King.

Why not pop in for a visit and see the many interesting and lovely gift ideas available from the many talented local crafty folk at Craft Corner, or participate in their annual 'Knit and Natter', held in July, where knitted squares are contributed by local members and are then stitched together to make sizable blankets which are then donated to charity.

NSW Modern Mining Trail

The Modern Mining Trail is a self drive tourism experience that takes visitors on a journey to see the world class gold and copper mines, where advanced technology and a pursuit of excellence has enabled NSW to be on the world map in mining.

Spanning over 43,000 kilometres across Central New South Wales, the Modern Mining Trail features six mines as the signature attractions: Northparkes Mine and the Peak Hill Open Cut Experience (Parkes), Newcrest Mining's Cadia Valley Operations (Orange), Barrick Cowal Gold Mine (West Wyalong), Great Cobar Mine and Peak Gold Mines (Cobar).

Henry Parkes Centre

The impressive Henry Parkes Centre, a tourism complex located on the northern side of town, incorporates two lots of museums. The first, The King's Castle Elvis Exhibit and the Parkes Motor Museum as one museum, located within the Parkes Visitor Information Centre. The second located just next door incorporates The Henry Parkes Museum (traditional history) and Antique Machinery Collection with entry via the Henry Parkes Museum.

The King's Castle Elvis Exhibit is a unique collection of original Elvis memorabilia owned by Greg Page. The exhibition displays genuine Elvis artefacts which were owned by Elvis or directly connected to his life and are on display telling the story of the on (and off) stage life of one of the world's greatest entertainers. Parkes Motor Museum houses an impressive collection of mint condition motor vehicles representing all heritage motoring eras.

The Henry Parkes Museum and Antique Machinery Collection depict early life in Parkes through objects, photos and historical information. The Historical Society volunteers are exceptionally knowledgeable on the history of Parkes, they will insightfully share this knowlege with you upon your visit.

The complex also features an Interactive Henry Parkes Display slideshow within Moat Cottage that depicts the life of Sir Henry.

Parkes Agricultural Show

The Parkes Show is one of the largest agricultural shows west of the Blue Mountains.

The Parkes Show is held each August running over three days and two nights with plenty of entertainment, side shows and trade stands along with a spectacular fireworks display that can be seen from miles around.

The event also features four days of horse events as well as exhibits of sheep, cattle, birds and poultry. Competitions of Junior and Senior Miss Showgirl, Junior Judging, a Shearing competition and the popular Smash Up Derby .

Parkes Picnic Races

Come along and be a part of the fashions, fun and festivities that make the June long weekend in Parkes the social highlight of the year!

At the Parkes Picnic Races there will be loads of entertainment with a great day of racing, live music, children's entertainment and the popular Fashions on the Field.

Parkes Visitor Information Centre

Parkes Visitor Information Centre is at The Henry Parkes Centre, North of the town's CBD along the Newell Highway. The centre provides the perfect opportunity for visitors to relax and unwind from their journey whilst they explore the two sections of the museum complex - The King's Castle Elvis Exhibit and Parkes Motor Museum (tickets available at information centre) and Henry Parkes Museum and Antique Machinery Collection (tickets available at Henry Parkes Museum entry). Also enjoy the free 15 minute documentary in Moat Cottage, a replica of the cottage Henry Parkes was raised in, in Coventry England.
