Young

Undulating is the best way to describe the terrain in which nestles the Capital Country town of Young. A primary cherry-growing area - the Annual Cherry Festival commences on the last weekend in November - it's located close to both Cowra and Cootamundra and is also renowned for its growth of other delicious winter fruits. Initially founded as a mining town, historical remnants of that golden era make Young a great sightseeing destination for those interested in Australia's pioneering legend. Chinaman's Dam, established by two Dutch brothers in the 1860s, is just four kilometres out of the town and has an extensive recreation and aquatic reserve, while Blackguard Gully Goldmining is a three-hectare area dedicated to prospecting.

This author talk is part of the many events to be held during the Lambing Flat Chinese Festival.

Robyn Atherton describes herself as an accidental author and is passionate about researching the history of the Harden Murrumburrah region in which she lives. Over the past decade she's produced four local histories from her research, which she wants to be accessible and easy to read.

Her work 'They were More than Just Gold Diggers - the Chinese of Murrumburrah and surrounding districts 1860's to 1960's' was compiled from newspaper reports, oral histories and archived records. This will be topic of Robyn's presentation at the Lambing Flat Chinese Festival this year, which takes place at 11am at the Young Library.
