Mid-State Shearing Shed Museum

The Mid-State Shearing Shed Museum was built in a disused railway goods shed by a group of retired shearers and the people of Nyngan. Their wish was to inform the public of the important contribution that the shearing industry made and is continuing to make in Nyngan, the Bogan Shire and New South Wales.

The organisers also wished for the Mid-State Shearing Shed Museum to display the talents of local artists. Their work can be seen as murals that cover several walls. The Museum is situated on the Mitchell Highway, adjacent to a parking bay and picnic area.

Bogan River

The Bogan River was discovered by Charles Sturt in 1829 and is a minor river in the central western region of New South Wales, Australia. The Bogan starts near Forbes and flows generally north-north-west past Nyngan and is a tributary of the Darling River. This beautiful river presents ideal opportunities for canoeing, bird watching, fishing, water skiing and relaxing on the banks with a BBQ or picnic.

Nyngan Museum

Nyngan is located on the banks of the Bogan River in Outback New South Wales. In 1990 the Bogan River flooded the township and much history was destroyed. The Museum was established by a wonderful group of locals wanting to collect local family history, relics and items of historical significance. Housed in the historic Railway Station, the Museum continues to grow beyond all expectations due to the dedicated group of volunteers whose passion is preserving local history to share with others.

The Nyngan Visitor Information Centre has opened in the old Waiting Room of the Nyngan Railway Station. Souvenirs, locally made products, maps and tourist information are available for purchase at the Visitor Information Centre. Visitors are also welcome to visit the Nyngan Museum as the new museum entrance is via the Visitor Information Centre.
