Warogong Sugarloaf Walking Track

Climb the heights of Warogong Sugarloaf for views from granite cliffs and Bogong Peaks Wilderness. As you climb Warogong Sugarloaf, the vegetation changes to scribbly gum with an understorey of large grass trees. Once you reach the to, you'll be treated to extensive views over the Tumut River valley to the north and Blowering Reservoir to the south-west. This walk is very steep on a formed track, 11 kilometre return - allow four to five hours for the walk.

Tumut Valley Violets

Tumut Valley Violets is a small business with a difference, it started off as a hobby in the early 1980's and is now a major tourist attraction in the Tumut region.

Set in the grounds of the old Tumut Plains school (established circa 1878), amid cottage gardens and two acres of trees, just seven kilometres from Tumut town centre.

It is the largest collection of African Violet in Australia and enthusiasts come from all over Australia and overseas to see them.

The Garden cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday and renowned for its scrumptious home-made Devonshire Teas or great coffee. Soft drink is available for the young ones. Coaches and groups are most welcome.

They carry a full range of products and accessories to propagate your own African Violets from leaves that can be selected from their stock plants.

The Lions Junction Park - Tumut

The Lions Junction Park (known as "The Junction") is a beautiful, peaceful park at the junction of the Goobarragandra and Tumut Rivers, only a few minutes from the centre of Tumut.

This is family-friendly park is perfect for picnicking or just lazing the afternoon away under the trees, and enjoying the picturesque clear rivers.

The Goobarragandra River is popular for swimming in summer, while the Tumut River (much faster flowing) is the place to launch your kayak or canoe to paddle down to the Riverglade Caravan Park in Tumut. During trout season the fishing is excellent.

Birdwatchers can find kingfishers, dollarbirds, robins, water birds, rosellas, parrots, cockatoos, finches, robins and fairywrens, along with the more common kookaburras, magpies, ravens and crows, magpie larks and willie wagtails that are just about always visible in the region.

Blowering Dam

Famous as the site of the world water-speed record in 1978, Blowering Dam is one of the biggest dams in NSW. At three times the size of Sydney Harbour, Blowering Dam stores water released upstream for hydro-electricity generation in the Snowy Mountains Scheme and for irrigation.

The reservoir is a popular spot for all water sports, including skiing, jet skis, sailing, canoeing and swimming. Several boat ramps are available at camping grounds around the lake foreshore. The dam is stocked with Murray cod, golden perch and silver perch. Trout and other fish species are present.

The dam and its tributaries are closed to trout fishing between the June and October long weekends.

The access road to Blowering Dam is a short drive south of Tumut.

5 Ways Art Gallery and Studio

The 5 Ways Art Gallery and Studio is a community owned and operated art space. It features a large gallery space which hosts up to 10 exhibitions per year including the annual art show which has been running for over 60 years. A gallery shop provides visitors an opportunity to purchase contemporary, locally made art and craft. The studio space is a large separate space adjacent the gallery.

Classes and groups use this space on a daily basis. Members and visitors are welcome to join in any of the activities on offer; Monday Fibre, Tuesday art class; Wednesday Oil painting, Thursday Fibre, Friday Watercolour, Saturday mixed media and Sunday printmaking. Tumut Community Labyrinth for Peace

The Tumut Labyrinth celebrates the community service of its citizens in times of peace and conflict. Located at Pioneer Park, this place of contemplation and reflection can be used by young and old, together or alone.

The path is wide enough to enable two people to walk together, including carers of children and those less able. Its width also facilitates access by wheelchair or motorised scooters. The way-stations provide places on the journey for rest and further reflection. Local stories of Indigenous and European settlement, revealed on test panels in the way-stations, also facilitate group use such as by schools or community groups.

Tumut Cycle Classic

Cycle through picturesque Tumut, tucked away in the Snowy Valleys, in the western slopes of the Snowy Mountains. This area is known for rolling green hills, and crystal-clear waterways, and is a cyclist's delight.

There is a ride for everyone starting from a 20 kilometre family fun ride, a 40 kilometre ride for the average cyclist, 75 kilometres for the adventure seeker and 100 kilometres for the experienced rider. Enjoy the serene landscape on the quiet country roads and meet the friendly locals afterwards or have a dip in the freshwater rivers wrapping this beautiful town. Experience the serene beauty of the region, while raising money for for Tumut Hospital.

In 2020, the Tumut Cycle Classic is raising AUD40,000 to purchase two state of the art Emergency Resuscitation beds for Tumut Hospital. Being able to carry a load of 300 kilograms, these beds also automatically measure a patients height and weight and have the attachments for blood pressure readings and IV stand. In addition they have compartments for x-ray films which will allow the doctors and radiographers to x-ray the patient while lying on the beds if medically required.

Tumut Boxing Day Races

Tumut Turf Club shows its colours at the annual Boxing Day Races, the biggest race meet for the year. Come down and discover the picturesque Tumut Turf Club. Tumut Turf Club is one of the oldest Race Clubs in NSW having commenced racing in the 18502 s.

Along with the races come, enjoy live entertainment. Food is available through the kiosk and barbecue and bar facilities are available on course. Marquee packages available.
