Wee Jasper Bridge over Goodradigbee River

The Wee Jasper Bridge was completed in 1896, is an early example of an Allan type timber truss road bridge. Allan trusses were third in the five stage design evolution of NSW timber truss bridges, and were a major improvement over the McDonald trusses which preceded them.

The Wee Jasper bridge is assessed as being State significant, primarily on the basis of its technical and historical significance.

Bridges are not just functional, they can also be scenic and engineering attractions. Spare a few minutes to admire Wee Jasper Bridge over Goodradigbee River.

Wee Jasper Reserves Day Visitors

The Wee Jasper Reserves are a popular holiday, recreation and touring destination, with beautiful camping areas beside rushing rivers and cascading streams, idyllic picnic spots and pristine bush.

The Wee Jasper Valley offers all sorts of outdoor and underground activities. The Reserves and surrounding areas are a haven for native animals and birds. The night sky is simply amazing. You really can't get much closer to nature!

There are five camping reserves offering a variety of facilities. Toilets, potable drinking water, barbecues and picnic tables are available at most of the reserves, but no power. Dogs are welcome, as long as they are on a lead and picked up after. Be as active or as lazy as you like. Plenty of great bushwalks, go fishing or just sit back and relax.

Careys Cave

Careys Cave is located in the beautiful Wee Jasper valley, about 50 kilometres from Yass and 80 kilometres from Canberra.

Set in a spectacular limestone landscape, Careys Cave features beautiful, naturally sculpted rock and a wealth of different cave formations. Access is down a flight of 30 steps, after which floors are mostly level with well-trodden and lit paths passing through various chambers. Suitable for all ages, two tours are on offer, covering different parts of the cave system, depending on group size. Tour content can be tailored to the requirements of school groups, and many outdoor educational caving groups include Careys Cave as part of their program.

A number of concerts are held in the caves throughout the year, as well as the occasional wedding. Outside, there is a covered area with tables and chairs, toilet facilities and a small kiosk. Nearby is a cafe, open on weekends, and the surrounding valley has a number of beautiful riverside campgrounds.
