Tadeusz Kosciuszko Monument


Located at the northern entrance to Cooma, the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Monument was a bicentennial gift from the Federal Council of Polish Associations in Australia to the town. The monument commemorates the discovery and naming of Mount Kosciuszko, and the contribution of Polish settlers to the Snowy Mountains Scheme. There is an information turnout, coach and car parking available.

Snowy Mountains Hydro Discovery Centre


The Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme is one of the engineering wonders of the modern world. With seven power stations - two of which are underground, 16 major dams, and over 140 kilometres of trans-mountain tunnels, it is a symbol of Australian endeavour at its best.

The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre is a state of the art visitor facility showcasing the amazing story of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, from the early construction days to the role the Scheme plays today in the development of Australia.

The centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall that includes a photographic collection, models, exhibits, and interactive displays. The centre also has two theatres, souvenirs, maps, and a cafe.

Cooma Little Theatre


Cooma Little Theatre (CLT) was founded in 1955 and has been active in the Monaro region as a community group since then.

Each year Cooma Little Theatre mounts a least four of its own high quality productions. These include a range of performance genres - comedy, drama, variety show and even pantomime.

In addition, Cooma Little Theatre act as a host venue for performances by touring professional companies such as the 'Railway Street Theatre and professional groups like the a capella ensemble 'the Idea of North'. This delivery of high quality art and culture has continued in an unbroken stream since operations began in 1955.

Cooma Little Theatre is a non-profit community theatre which provides arts and culture (live drama, comedy, dance, musicals and dinner theatre), It is the only live theatre in the region and also hosts touring productions. Its self-sustained survival for over 60 continuous years proves wide community support from both the larger towns and the small communities.

Their next production is 'Play On' by Samual French and directed by Cooma Little Theatre regular, Nell Pernitsch. performances will be held over three weekends in August.

Monaro Woodworks


Monaro Woodworks is located in Cooma on Sharp Street in the Snowstop village next to subway.

They are a collective of artists selling hand made goods.

They have over 40 local artists displaying a wide range of Arts and crafts and Metal sculpture.

They mainly have wood work, furniture, toys, puzzles, bowls, routed timber signs, pens, chopping boards, coat racks, kitchen utensils, wood sculpture, candle holders, bush furniture, band saw boxes, turned items.

Other items include hand made knives, blacksmith, stoneware, pottery, candles, prints, rocking horses.

They also have large timber slabs for bars, counters ,bench tops red gum, black wood, redwood, etc.

They have over 30 different types of recycled timbers some well over 100 years old for all your craft needs.

They have turning blanks, pen blanks, box making timbers, burls, knife scales.

The artists include Black smiths, Woodworkers, Cabinet makers, Metal sculptural artists, Potters, Carvers, Painters, Box makers, Photographers, Members of the men's shed, Toy makers, Metal fabricators and many others.

New South Wales Corrective Services Museum


Are you curious about the rich penal history of NSW? Then the Corrective Services Museum in Cooma is just the place for you to visit.

Located between Cooma Court House and the Correctional Centre in Cooma, the Museum displays a collection of objects relating to punishment and crime from the mid 19th century such as manacles and leg irons, convict and prisoner clothing, weapons and escape devices, photos and visual documentation.

The museum provides an insight into the daily routine of jails from early days through to modern times.

Inmate art and craft is also available to purchase.

Minimum security inmates are the tour guides through the museum.

Inmate arts and crafts are for sale along with Aboriginal art.

Nanny Goat Hill Lookout


The Nanny Goat Hill Lookout offers extensive views of the Cooma township and surrounding grazing country. The lookout is also part of the historic Lambie Town Walk.

A sculpture of a nanny goat sits by the lookout. The sculpture was created by local artist, the late Chris Graham, who was also instrumental in the erection of the Mosaic Time Walk.

Centennial Park at Cooma


The lush green Centennial Park is in the centre of town and was originally designated a market square in 1849 by the white settlers of the town. The park's music shell was built in 1959 and provides a sheltered entertainment area. Also in the park is the Avenue of Flags, representing the 27 nations from which workers on the Snowy Mountains Scheme came.

Centennial Park is also home to the Cooma-Monaro Time Walk, a series of mosaics depicting the history of the Monaro. The mosaics were created by local artist Chris Graham and students at the local TAFE College in 1988 (Australia's Bicentennial Year).

Shaded trees and picnic benches make it a lovely spot to take a break during your trip.

Michelago Pony Club Gymkhana and Sporting Spectacular



See the best young riders from the region compete at the Michelago Pony Club's Double Chance Sporting Gymkhana. There are several fun and exciting sporting events with riders having two attempts at each sporting event, with only the rider's best time counted.

The winner of the flag spectacular will be awarded the Man from Snowy River Medallion.

This is the ultimate sporting weekend, and a great opportunity to see the upcoming equestrian talent.
