Daintree
The township of Daintree, perched on a bend of the Daintree River, is just further on from the turn off to the Daintree Ferry. Lunch on freshly caught barramundi at one of the local restaurants, browse the art and craft shops, and enjoy the ambience of this laidback village. Wildlife of every kind flourishes on the Daintree River and its banks. The area's most infamous inhabitants are the estuarine crocodiles. There are a number of river cruises where, from the safety of a boat, you can watch crocodiles sunning themselves on the mangrove lined banks or gliding through the water. The only cable ferry in tropical Australia, the Daintree Ferry provides the only southern access into the lowland Daintree Rainforest. It's a vehicle ferry operating from 6 a.m. to midnight daily.

Daintree: Where To Go / Sightseeing
Cape Tribulation, Daintree National Park

One of the most biologically diverse areas in the world, this park is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and the coastal waters are within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. At Cape Tribulation, rainforest meets reef, and two world heritage areas collide, in spectacular style!
The Cape Tribulation section of the park stretches in a narrow strip from the Daintree River in the south to the Bloomfield River in the north and the dense upland rainforest that cloaks the coastal range contains many ancient plants and animals.
Camp at Noah Beach camping area and explore the park on walks ranging from the 650 metre return Jindalba boardwalk through tropical lowland rainforest, to the 1.2 kilometre return Marrja boardwalk through rainforest and mangroves. Experienced and well-prepared bushwalkers can tackle the 7 kilometre return Mount Sorrow ridge trail. Keep an eye out for cassowaries and drive slowly through cassowary territory. Remember to be croc wise around creeks and beaches.

Daintree Discovery Centre

The Centre is a 'must see' for anyone visiting the area and where you can experience the rainforest at every level - from the forest floor to the upper most reaches of the canopy.
From the top of the 23 metre high Canopy Tower you can see spectacular orchids and if you're lucky you might just spot a python curled up in a giant basket fern. The spectacular Aerial Walkway provides unprecedented access to the mid level rainforest. You may see a Cassowary with a clutch of chicks wandering along the creek below.
The Display Centre has a DVD theatre with films on conservation, cassowaries, crocodiles and more. Interactive computer kiosks have animated DVD's and the Jurassic Forest walk, featuring simulated life-like dinosaurs from 100 million years ago to more recent mega fauna.
Self guided audio tours feature interesting information of how the traditional local Aboriginal people made good use of the natural features of the rainforest.
