Morialta Conservation Park

For over 100 years, the gorges, waterfalls and woodlands of Morialta have provided a recreational escape for walkers and rock climbers just 10km from the city of Adelaide.

Enjoy the rugged ridges, gully scenery and seasonal waterfalls that make up Morialta Conservation Park. The three waterfalls along Fourth Creek are popular features of the park and are linked by an extensive network of walking trails. The views from the rock climbing zone also provide opportunities to admire Morialta Gorge and the nearby Adelaide plains.

The first two falls are the grandest, each cascading over sheer quartzite cliffs after rain. To see the falls at their best, visit the park during spring or winter when the water flow is strongest. For wildlife lovers, the park's rock pools and creeks provide habitat for small reptiles, frogs and birds. Watch out for honeyeaters and thornbills among the woodlands that cover the hills.

Black Hill Conservation Park

Enjoy spectacular scenery of rugged ridges and native plants and animals, as you walk the trails in Black Hill Conservation Park .

The park covers an area of 684 hectares and features the low sheoaks which give Black Hill its name. The foliage of the sheoaks gradually matures to a dark rusty, almost black colour, as summer progresses. As you look from the Adelaide Plains, the hills appear to be black.

The park also contains a wide variety of flora that offers a stunning display of native flowers in the spring including many delicate and colourful orchid species.

While you're visiting the park, take a walk through the landscaped Wildflower Garden that dates back to the late 1940s.

St George's Church, Magill Self-Guided Cemetery Tours

St. George's Church was built on land given by Captain John Finlay Duff in 1847. It was the first Church of England to be consecrated in the Colony, by Augustus Short, first Bishop of Adelaide on 30th January, 1848. This early work still survives in the attractive exterior of the old front section of the Church.

Pamphlets for a Self-Guided Cemetery Tour can be found in the holders on the Cemetery Entrance Board, located by the main brick pathway to the right of the Church. Its first burial on 16th February, 1848 was Bishop Short's 12 month old daughter Caroline Phillipa Augusta, just seven weeks after the family arrived in the Colony.

Come and experience a sampling of some fascinating stories including some of our early colonists with names such as Penfold, Waterhouse, Murray, Hallett, Auld, Horsnell, Jury.

Subject to availability and for a small fee, groups using the S-G Pamphlets can arrange to have volunteers available to assist with questions and provide refreshments.

Enquiries can be directed to - history@stgeorgesmagill.org. Other information about St. George's Church and Cemetery can be found on its website - www.stgeorgesmagill.org.

If you love history, then a stroll through this Cemetery is a must!
