Lindenow
The Gippsland village of Lindenow lies halfway between the commercial centre and resort town of Bairnsdale and the Mitchell River National Park.
The park is a favourite for bushwalkers and white-water kayakers enjoy the challenges the river presents as it cascades through narrow gorges. One of the gorges contains the Den of Nargun, a spiritual site the local Aborigines believe is the lair of a stone creature that preys on unsuspecting travellers.
The Mitchell River eventually empties into Lake King at Eagle Point Bluff to the east of Lindenow and Bairnsdale. The bluff overlooks the world's second largest silt jetty. The lakes system provides good fishing and camping facilities.
It is just a short drive to the regional capital of Bairnsdale, while the celebrated lakes of Wellington, Victoria and King lie inshore of the Ninety Mile Beach.
The regional vineyards include nearby Glovinda and, just to the east of Bairnsdale, the Nicholson River Winery. It is a magic part of the world and one of Victoria's most popular holiday destinations.
