Serpentine

Serpentine is a small town in a central Loddon Shire region where the rolling hills of the southern reaches of the council area give way to the broad, flat plains occupied by dryland farmers.

It is a region that also embraces part of the celebrated Golden Triangle bound by Wedderburn, Inglewood and Dunoly which produced up to 80 per cent of the world's gold nuggets.

Serpentine lies to the east of the triangle on the Loddon Valley Highway and, along with nearby towns, retains many of the buildings that date back to early settlement.

Serpentine is also within comfortable driving distance of the Whipstick and Kamarooka state parks which lie about 50km to the south-east. The parks conserve some of north-central Victoria's outstanding natural features, although they also reflect intensive exploitation over the last 150 years by gold-miners, fringe farmers, loggers and eucalyptus oil producers.

The parks are at their colourful best between August and November when the wild flowers that skirt the walking trails are in bloom.

Eucalyptus Distillery Museum

Inglewood Eucalyptus Distillery site offers a unique attraction set at the historic Jones Eucalyptus Distillery, providing an interactive experience that highlights the importance of the eucalyptus industry to the district.

The museum highlights Eucalyptus Polybractea, or the "blue eucy", and links the history and archaeology of how eucalyptus was and is now distilled to our area.

Located on the northern side of Inglewood, the museum is some 50 kilometres west of Bendigo and two hours from the centre of Melbourne. The new Museum was opened in July 2011. The Museum is open Thursday to Monday, 10:00 - 4:00 pm, with toilets on site as well as a car park, a kiosk and a gift shop that sells a comprehensive range of natural eucalyptus oil and natural healthy eucalyptus based products.

The museum has an increasing collection of eucalyptus history, art works and working model distillery.

This is an ideal day trip, located in the historic gold township of Inglewood, which now features an increasing range of antiques and collectables.

Come and visit, the staff at Eucalyptus Distillery Museum would love to show you around.
