Honeysuckle Creek Walking Track


The Honeysuckle Creek Walking Track is the result of a Community Capacity Building Initiative, in which the Violet Town community identified a local area that had developmental potential.

The project took 18 months and saw over 50 community working bee, and 1,600 hours of volunteer work. Ongoing maintenance and planting is completed by a dedicated group of volunteers.

The easy three kilometre circuit takes around 40 minutes to complete, and is suitable for wheelchairs and prams. Keep a lookout for the local wildlife which includes possums, bats, water rat, squirrel gliders and frogs.

The Heritage Walk - Violet Town


Take a stroll around Violet Town and discover some of the parts that make up the history of this small town.

The Heritage Walk is made up of 18 points of interest, with visitors able to commence the walk at any one of the locations.

Interesting sights along the walk include the War Memorial, Ellen Frances Hotel, the Old National Bank, the former Shire offices, and the original Flour Mill and Butter Factory.

Reef Hills State Park


A haven for wildlife and native vegetation, Reef Hills State Park near Benalla is a great spot for a picnic, scenic drive, bushwalk, bike ride or horse ride. The park will delight visitors year-round, with wildflowers blooming in spring, wattles flowering in winter and large yellow Guinea-flowers on display most of the year.

The park was worked for reef and alluvial gold in the early 1900s and today prospectors may be still be lucky enough to find gold.

Kutther's Cell Exhibition, Art of Mervyn Beamish


Mervyn Beamish is a Victorian artist from Benalla who graduated from National Art School in 970.

Mervyn runs workshops in art and writing, is a published author and occasional resident artist. In recent years he has participated in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Germany, Poland and Australia. His works are in both local and international private collections including UK, United States, Germany, Egypt, Poland and Malta.

During a 30 plus years as a freelance writer he wrote, but never completed a novel "Kutther's Cell". This exhibition explores atmosphere, emotions and locations from this narrative. Until recently spent at least twelve weeks a year traveling down the outback roads capturing the fleeting moments, memories and illusions.

Resides in Benalla, Victoria, where he exhibits and has a working studio with North East Artisans (NEA).

A Garden of Pots


A Garden of Pots is inspired by a vast range of plants housed in pots including bulbs, herbs, grasses, ground covers, shrubs, hellebores, succulents, roses, pelargoniums, cannas, ferns and many more.

Entry is $2.00 per person. A wide range of plants will also be available to purchase. Proceeds to Benalla Garden Club projects and Benalla Health.

Open Garden - Rowilla


Part of the Benalla Festival.

This garden with over 500 roses was featured in the Weekend Australian in 2013. Many rare plants are found throughout the garden. Stone steps descend from the house and lead towards an ornamental lake surrounded by shrubs and perennials.

An avenue of standard roses leads to the formal rose garden with a lovely white gazebo covered in climbing roses positioned to the left. A stone bridge crosses the dry creek bed edged by natives and ornamental grasses. Many large interesting shady trees planted throughout the property complete the parkland style garden.

Entry is $5.00 per person. Morning and afternoon teas available for purchase.

Children must be supervised by an adult at all times and please no dogs.
