Located 15 minutes' drive from the city center, the Christchurch Gondola gently lifts you nearly a kilometer to the top of the Port Hills, almost 500 meters above sea level. Experience stunning 360° views from the summit, across the cityscape of Christchurch and over the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps. To the south and east are dramatic views of Banks Peninsula, Lake Ellesmere and Lyttleton Harbour formed in a sunken volcanic crater. Looking north the beaches of Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean unfold to the distant Kaikoura Peninsula. Inside the hilltop complex take a journey back 12 million years on the Discovery ride - venture through the smoldering depths of a volcano, a native New Zealand forest, a short voyage on board a ship and through the early settlements of Christchurch. Later on, enjoy a snack at the Red Rock Cafe or browse what is on offer at The Shop at the Top.
