An Australian Luxury Escapes vehicle will pick you up from your hotel to commence a Port Arthur Discovery tour. Departing your city hotel, we travel around the historic birthplace of this fascinating city - Salamanca Place, Constitution Dock and Battery Point before making our way east across the Tasman Bridge and then south to Dunalley, the gateway to the Forestier and Tasman Peninsulas. Travel via the historic township of Richmond, one of Tasmania’s many examples of convict heritage and Georgian architecture; renowned for its food and wine. Arriving at Port Arthur you will visit the Tessellated Pavement, which is a unique rock formation disappearing into the sea. Take time at the numerous natural attractions the peninsula’s rugged coast has to offer, such as Tasman’s Arch and Lookout. The quirky Doo Town is another sight to see on the way to the Port Arthur Settlement.
Next, we reach Port Arthur Historical Sites. Known as a convict settlement is now a World Heritage-listed site. Experience Australia’s colonial history written in stone and brick before joining your tour. During this tour you’ll visit the tiny cemetery island which was the final resting place for more than 1000 convicts, military and civil officers, women and children, before journeying to the island aboard the MV Maran. Lunch today is at Port Arthur Lavender Farm. Lavender-inspired cuisine created using local Tasmanian produce, whilst sipping on a glass of beer, wine, or soft drink. Afterwards spend time experiencing fragrances, observing the distilling process (in season) or browsing handmade products. We then return you to your hotel in the early evening, but not before stopping by the Federation Chocolate Factory to sample some local handmade sweets (seasonal) or observing the colonial architecture of the Narryna Heritage Museum.
