Flying Northeast into Arnhem Land, you quickly arrive at the 'Archway', a dominant natural structure near the end of an outlier, an island of rock separated from the Arnhem Land Plateau over an unimaginable age. The valley floor between the outlier and the Plateau is known as Mikinj Valley, it's floor has seasonal creeks but is dominated by a large round billabong, resting between escarpment dominated rock country the East Alligator River passes through Mikinj Valley. It's placid dry season waters and perfect white sand defy he reality of massive floods in the wet season. In all, this flight demonstrates the food and shelter resources that enabled indigenous existence in this area for tens of thousands of years.~~~~ |
