Picture this, in an enchanting, wooded Norfolk Forest, under the spectacular night stars, meandering along a path, where thousands of fairy lights arch through the trees. Just wait until the surprise at the end… ‘Wonderland by Night’ celebrates the stories of life gone by, and how the past has shaped the island’s identity, by sharing a collection of Old Time Island Stories, which are often humours and rather poignant tales of family life-written by Archie Bigg This is a unique opportunity to hear the ‘Norf’k’ language spoken and translated in one of the stories, and to understand a little of the Island humour. Diverse topics like cows, cattle-grids, tour bus driving, the contents of old sheds and the ‘Norfolk wave’ are all covered and a bit of everything else thrown in too. Each story on the walk (or rise if you’d prefer a trip in the ‘moon buggy’) is illustrated by a minutely detailed diorama in the trees – so see if you can spot a mangle in the wash- house or a the ‘5-star accommodation’ for the chickens. From start to finish (keep an eye out for the flying witches!) you’ll be enchanted. The evening spans just over an hour and is rounded off by a hot cuppa and a chance to share some entertaining stories in ‘the shed’, a lovely building, interestingly decorated with memorabilia of times gone by. You can find all sorts of things in there. If you don’t know what some of the items are you are welcome to ask and if you do know, then you might just be giving away your age!
